Permanently Closed to Submissions
I’m making the difficult decision to stop buying new stories for Cossmass Infinities.
We are updating the website to show ‘Permanently Closed’.
For the rest of this year we will continue to publish the stories we have already bought, in part thanks to your support. Once they have have all been published, that will be the end.
I will be closing the Patreon account by the end of the year.
New Story: In a Lizard's Wake
Today we bring you In a Lizard’s Wake by Manuela Ferrari, free to read.
Manuela Ferrari grew up in Switzerland. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, she turned to science and is now working as an Evolutionary Biologist. When she’s not busy unravelling the mysteries of nature, you can find her lost in a book or crafting her own tales of distant worlds and fantastical creatures.
New Story: Of Fire and Slumber
Today we bring you Of Fire and Slumber by Brian D. Hinson, free to read.
Brian D. Hinson ditched a lame career in 1999 and concentrated on traveling backpacker-style to 40-some countries. He grew up in Detroit but eventually settled to rural New Mexico, USA. His stories have appeared in Andromeda Spaceways, Shoreline of Infinity, and ParSec. He haunts the webs at @briandhinson1 and https://www.briandhinson.com/
New Story: Carrying Stones
Today we bring you Carrying Stones by Avi Burton, free to read.
Content warning: Holocaust, child death
Avi Burton (he/they) currently moonlights as a writer and daylights as a university student. He enjoys studying theater and mythology. His stories often feature queer characters, revenants, and—on occasion—laser swords. You can find more of their stories on their website, https://aviburton.com, or find the author themself on twitter under @avi_why.
New Story: Mercy Rides Free
Our new story today is our first website-only story.
Mercy Rides Free by Elizabeth Cobbe.
Elizabeth is a writer who has worked as an arts critic, journalist, and playwright. Her short fiction has appeared in or is forthcoming from Fireside, Daily Science Fiction, and Kaleidotrope, and she is a graduate of Viable Paradise 2019. She lives in Austin.
Hamilton Prize Winner: Splits
I am delighted to learn that P.A. Cornell’s Splits, from Issue 6, has won The Hamilton Public Library Freda Waldon Award for Fiction.
“This piece is immediately compelling to read, its mystery slowly opening up to the reader. It’s a unique science-fictional concept told with the perfect amount of distance. It suggests a larger message about family, self-parenting, and the multitudinous nature of identity without coming across as overly preachy or being too over-the-top with its theme.” – Juror comment
New Story: Rag and Bone, Scrap and Sinew
We have a small blast from the past with a story from our second Issue of Cossmass Infinities available for you to read now for free.
Rag and Bone, Scrap and Sinew by Jonathan Laidlow. Jonathan grew up in the North West of England, near the Sellafield Nuclear Power plant, which regularly leaked. He has one good leg, one good eye, and one good ear. You can find out more about Jonathan at his website: https://jonlaidlow.com
